Finals week is here

It’s like shark week without the water, vicious mammals, blood, tears drama, suspense..
Hey, I guess it’s exactly like shark week!

2nd Place Regular Season goes to Kevin Horgan and Rusty Burdick, $84 each.
1st Place Regular Season goes to Ian McPherson and Ron Bates, $168 each.
What we don’t know yet:4th Place Playoffs: receive Jack Squat3rd Place Playoffs: receive $28 each2nd Place Layoffs: receive $84 each1st Place Playoffs: receive $168 each.
For the Playoffs:Allie and Wayne will go up against Hans and Brandon.
Alex and Phil S. will take on Jody Smith. Please settle it all on the course before you see me in the clubhouse.
Weirdness for this year. The 3 weeks we have paid but did not play for this season will go as a credit for those returning next season against the 2012 dues schedule. If you are certain you will not play next year please let me know and I will send you a check to cover the 3 weeks:3*27=$81. If you decide next year not to play I will also send you a check. The monies that came from reduced greens fees and from the sub fees will be held until next year. I am investigating the purchase of Plaques for the various winners that would be held for a year and then returned for the next year winners. Think Lord Stanley Cup, but bigger…
See you all out there on Wednesday and prepare to stand on the deck at the clubhouse, socially distanced for the brief pomp and circumspection.

2nd round of playoffs are done 3rd round is set

Members in good standing,
Last week was tough for half of the competitors and grueling for the other half.
Jody “Lone Star” Smith(2) defeated Ron “hum a bar” Bates and by association Ian “I’m working here” McPherson, 16-4 and 7-13 respectively. Nice job Jody, welcome to the Blues.
Alex “I think I hit my ball in the woods right next to you” Weiland beat Rusty “You did, but I stepped on it taking my stance so play it as it lies” Burdick 13-7 (at least it wasn’t 16-4). Kevin “Russ you’re too heavy to carry” Horgan beat Phil “oh well, another one down the middle” Sharpe 11-9, as you could tell it just wasn’t enough to overcome my lackluster performance. Alex and Phil move up the ladder of success.
Hans “I’m from Pittsburgh” Kjolhede pushed aside Steve “New Hampshire?” Giguere 13-7. Keith “I’m telling you it’s 2 topped 6 irons and a bladed wedge from here” MacNeal beat Brandon “Am I too young to drink Ensure” Brackett 11-9. Hans and Brandon live another day.
Allie “John Bonham” Perras beat the snot out of Kevin “I’m a drumhead, I’m a golfer, I’m a drumhead, I’m a golfer” Zephir 15-5. Who knows the loose movie reference assigned to Kevin? Anyone, anyone, Bueller, Bueller…at least he didn’t get beat 16-4, that guy must want to buy the league a round of drinks out of sheer embarrassment. Kevin “I’m here instead of Wayne” Riley took on Paul “Piker” Duane. Paul played tough but lost out 12-8 against “that Killer”. Allie and Wayne “oh, my back” get another shot at greatness.
Check the schedule, check your wallets and check on anyone who needs it that you care about..

On some member update news:  Linda Mara is doing well in her recovery from surgery. She misses everyone very much and can’t wait til next year to get out there with us all. Bill is feeling well enough to rejoin our merry band. He won’t hug you even if you ask him, so don’t bother. Bill, it’s good to see you back out here with us again.
Due to the crazy circumstances and our need to shorten the season, the competition committee has decided that the Regular season winnings will go out 60/30/10 for 1/2/3 place. The same for the Playoffs.(no change from last year).
Regards,
Rusty and Luke

Playoffs ?!?

NORTHBORO, MA USA – September 8, 2020

Sportsfans,
After much conversation and gnashing of teeth and listening to the wind Luke and I have decided due to daylight considerations the Regular Season is now Closed and we’ll immediately get to the playoffs.
You may ask, “what does this mean to me?”.
It means that Ian McPherson and Ron Bates are the Regular Season Champions of 2020. They’ve done it before, so I hope they act appropriately to this news.
It means the Playoffs are starting so check the schedule to find your opponents. You may want to brush up on how the scoring is done so there aren’t more hurt feelings than usual.
Remember this:  There must be a distinct winner for each match played that night. This means any ties must be broken. The method chosen must be agreed upon by each Team.
Possible methods: Play an extra hole(s) where any handicap strokes are properly applied, flip a coin, cut a deck of cards, closest to the pin from somewhere on the course, a footrace in the parking lot, a putt off on the practice green.
The logistics of the balance of the season still need to be worked out by Luke and me. One thing is certain, Ian and Ron will receive at least $1 and no more than $60,000 for winning the Regular Season.
See you all tomorrow.

Week 11 results, Week 12 Matches

Notice the tee times have been moved up by 10 minutes. Be punctual and please move along in a smooth and swift pace. The last group played 2 holes in the dark week 11. We are trying to get split tee times from the Shop, but it is touch and go for now. Be prepared for drastic measures.
Brandon and Paul Dwane each recorded a Birdie last week, congratulations!
Fondly,
Rusty and Luke

Its Week 11, again.

Members and esteemed guests,

“The Golfers Are Back In Northborough”

Guess who just got back on Wednesday?

Them wild-eyed Golfers that had been away

Haven’t changed, still can’t drive in the fairway

But man, I still think them cats are great

They were asking if Luke was around

How Bill was, where could Rusty be found

I told them Blue was living downtown

Driving all the old pros crazy

The Shipley Golfers are back in Northborough

You know the Player that used to chip a lot

Every League night she’d be in the fringe chipping what we could not

Man when I tell you she was cool, she could putt red hot

I mean she could drain ’em

That time over at the Lateral Hazard 13th stake

Well this guy wound up and fell right in the lake

Man we just fell about the place

If that guy can’t swim we’re gonna leave him

The Golfers are back in Northborough

Spread the Strokes as though

The Sandbaggers are back in Northborough

Wednesday night they’re fit to be tied

At the bar and grill on Riverside

The drink will flow and bullshit will spill

If the Fellas want Top Shelf then they can buy them

There’s an Overserved Guy giving the rundown of his every shot

The nights are getting warmer, but there’s no time for that

It won’t be long till summer turns to Fall

Now that the Golfers are here we might could finish it all

The Golfers are back in Northborough

Warmest regards,

Rusty

August 5th – No Play, August 12th – No Play.

Play is currently delayed, and scheduled to restart on August 19th.

A Member has tested positive for COVID-19, so play is being suspended for the next 2 weeks. A special thank you and best wishes to that Member for informing us of their situation.

Please see the email from Russ or contact him directly if there are any concerns about potential contact over the past few weeks of play.

Week 9 results and week 10 pairings

The top of the pile is getting a little cozy: 4 teams led by Hans and Brandon are poised for either greatness or bitter defeat…which will it be for our new heroes of the League?
Alex, Kevin Riley and myself each carded a birdie. I’m leading with 5 and Kevin R. is close behind with 3. If you need a sub, I’m sure he’d answer the call.
Check the Standings and I think the weather will be better for Wednesday compared to this weekend.
Regards,
Rusty
